In spring
The Music Collection hydrangeas will do well outside in a sunny or semi-shaded spot. Keep in mind, however, that these hydrangeas do not like extreme heat. So try to find a spot where the plant can enjoy the shade in the afternoon. Although hydrangea generally grow well in a wide variety of soil types, it usually prefers rich, moist and well-draining soil. Before planting, it's helpful to enrich the soil with fertiliser. The best time to plant a hydrangea is in spring - when the threat of frost has passed - or in summer. Give plenty of water after planting. You can also apply a layer of organic material (mulch) around the hydrangea to prevent dehydration.
Transplanting hydrangeas is very easy, but it should only be done during its dormancy period in autumn or winter. Make sure you dig out the entire root ball and replant the Hydrangea immediately. Don't forget to water thoroughly.

Add fertiliser in spring and summer
Water is an important factor. The Music Collection hydrangeas enjoy a thorough watering at least once a week, especially in dry weather. They also need an occasional boost of fertiliser. Preferably twice a year, in spring and summer. This will allow the hydrangea to grow into healthy, evenly growing plant with many beautiful flowers.

Actually, there is no need to cut back or prune hydrangeas. It is sufficient to remove the wilted flowers. If the hydrangea grows in a warm climate, you should remove the wilted blooms immediately after flowering. If your hydrangea grows in a cooler climate, it is better to remove the wilted flowers in spring. Just before the hydrangea starts to produce new shoots. Remove only the wilted flowers and leave the new buds.

Preserving the purple color
Acidic soil with aluminum sulphate or potassium alum
Did you know that purple (and blue) hydrangeas get their color partly due to the composition (acidity) of the soil? The flowers only turn purple when the plant grows in acidic soil and when aluminum sulfate or potassium alum has been added. If you would like to maintain the purple colour, you should enrich the soil with aluminum sulphate or potassium alum every year in the first half of September. But be careful not to sprinkle the sulfate on the leaves or flowers. Aluminum sulfate or potassium alum are available at most garden centers.
Note: do you want to your hydrangea to keep its red/pink colour? Then make sure that the soil remains alkaline, for example by adding lime.
